Webinars focus on land stewardship and water conservation in the Trinity River basin

Trinity River flowing past the I-45 bridge with Dallas in the background.
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Trinity Waters, a conservation organization based in the Trinity River basin, will conduct three webinars for landowners and other stakeholders in the basin.  The Trinity River provides water for 45% of Texans, including Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston.  It is important for Texans to realize this fact and begin taking steps to make sure the river can meet the water needs for Texans in the future.
Even though 75% of the basin is rural, cities use 80% of the water in the basin.  For this reason, the webinars center on the importance of proper land stewardship in the rural areas and water conservation in the urban areas to ensure future water for these areas that depend on the Trinity River.
The first webinar, "Treasuring the Trinity: Challenges and Opportunities" will be shown tomorrow starting at noon and will last for one hour.  To view the webinar, go to the Forestry Webinar Portal and select the webinar under "Upcoming Webinars." The Portal requires the latest version of Java, so be sure to visit early to make sure your computer is compatible.
The first webinar will provide background on the water quality and land stewardship issues in the past, while looking at current efforts to build partnerships to enact change at a landscape level to improve the quantity and quality of the river, as well the land productivity for landowners.
  Other webinars include,
- Turning Your Land Into A Sponge, August 8
- Meeting the Water Needs for Texans and Wildlife, September 12
