Properly managing the land and water resources of the Trinity River Basin is essential to healthy ecosystems that produce abundant wildlife and clean water. It is also important for the economic success of landowners who are looking to enhance their operation. In order to do this, landowners need the right tools, knowledge being the most important. The Texas AgriLife Extension Service is committed to providing expertise on natural resource management issues around the state. Two upcoming programs in Corsicana reflect this mission and is beneficial to any landowner reading this blog.
The first program will be held on March 28 from 9 am - 4 pm and will focus on pond management on private lands. Topics will include basic pond ecology, water quality, pond fertilization techniques, management options to minimize bacterial contaminants, aquatic weed identification and control, and how to drought proof your pond. Participants will also hear about the work being done by Trinity Waters and other landowners to restore the Trinity River. For more information including how to register, click here.
The second program will be held April 4 from 8:30 am - 4 pm and will focus on feral hog control. Damage to agriculture and water quality is escalating with each passing year, therefore, landowners need to be equipped with knowledge in order to combat this growing threat. Topics at this workshop will include feral hog biology, the impact of feral hogs on watersheds, hunting laws and regulations, disease concerns and effective trapping techniques.
